![]() ![]() there is no difference in the breed, only the breeding. vdd owners like to think that there is and feel usually feel their dogs are the better of the 2. there are not 2 different breeds, never was, never will be. as you found out, and i was trying to point out, dd actually means german wirehair. a dd, as you call it, and a german wirehair are the same dog. i think you misunderstand me, and that's my fault, i do not mean to say vdd is a seperate breed, it is not, it is a breed standard. the difference between a vdd and a wirehair is a pet peeve of mine and many others in the club, but very much mine personally. 8)ĭogsbestfriend-i'm glad you figured that stuff out. ![]() i'm not in a rush, next year or so is fine. i'm not sure wether i'll go vdd or not, but i have a vdd breeder friend from the club i talk with alot and he is trying to talk me that way. i have 1 wirehair now and am looking for a pup. a vdd dog is very serious about being a true german bred german wirehair, even though the breeding may have been in the states for generations. ![]() vdd even states breed specifications such as coat and color, as well as other things, that if not met, the puppy is to be destroyed to ensure the inferior gene is not passed on. as far as breeding, you can have vdd breeding in you wirehair, as i do in mine, but nothing but vdd in a vdd dog. anything but is just a german wirehair pointer. these dogs are even tatooed to ensure that they are distinguished as true vdd dogs. if you buy a dog in the states and want that traditional german breeding, you have to buy a vdd dog. unless you import a dog from germany with outstanding and long german breeding, your just getting a german wirehair, a dd. a vdd, what makes them special here in the states and it is that special breeding and testing background. Dogsbestfriend- your right as far as the dd and vdd. ![]()
